Autumn 2
Early Years Newsletter 2
Dear Parents,
The children have progressed such a lot in the last couple of months and we are so proud of them. As well as learning all our routines and schedules, they have completed daily maths and Phonics lessons and have learnt the first group of letter sounds: s, a, t, p, i, n, m, d, g, o, c, k, e, u, r and our first digraph ck (a digraph is 2 letters that make 1 sound) and we have just started blending these letter sounds together to make CVC (Consonant, Vowel, Consonant) words e.g. c-a-t = cat. Thank you for returning your Proud Clouds to show us what you are proud of at home too. It’s not too late if you haven’t returned yours or would like another copy there are some attached.
Phonics
For this half term we will be focussing on the rest of the letter sounds within the alphabet and some more digraphs such as ff, ll, ss, qu, ch, sh, th, ng, nk and plurals. We would encourage you to help your child to complete the Home Learning each week.
We will be reading lots of stories this half term continuing to focus on Harvest until we start looking at the Nativity Story. We look at what the characters are doing, how they are feeling and why. We will then be making our version Harvest soup and trying it.
Christmas
Now for some very exciting news: We will be performing for you the last week of the term so look out for performance dates in the school weekly newsletter and on our school website. We will be starting to learn the songs almost immediately so be prepared for Christmas to start early!
Uniform
Please, please, please name every item that comes into school – it is very easily misplaced especially now that we have winter coats, hats, gloves and scarves coming in. We are delighted to see the children looking so smart and wearing the correct uniform. It gives us a lovely sense of pride and belonging.
Library
Looking at books and reading for pleasure and enjoying books is really important. Our library day is always on a MONDAY. Please make sure your child keeps their library book in their book bag so that they are always prepared for their library day.
Reading
Please make sure that they also complete their daily reading at home which is checked on a Monday and a Friday. We are so impressed that some children are well on their way to achieving their second reading certificate to celebrate having completed 50 reads. We are always happy to support you and your child so please contact us via the reading logs, book bags, telephone or email if you have any messages or questions. You are aware by now that you get a ‘Love to Read’ book to share together during the week as well as their Library books and their Little Wandle book on a Thursday to read over the weekend. The Little Wandle book MUST be returned on Monday for other children to use. Please remember that you can read any books you have at home too and these can also be recorded in their reading diaries.
Communication
Every morning the class teacher will greet your child and you outside. If you need to pass on any information please do so at this time or at the end of the day. We appreciate that some parents work and cannot get into school to speak to us so please feel free to email or call us. We are very happy to help.
Thank you so much for your support and we are looking forward to a very busy half term.
Mrs Dickinson, Miss Hiseman and team.
