About Us
Headteacher's Welcome
Dear Parents and Carers
On behalf of the governors and staff of St John’s Gosport Church of England (Voluntary Aided) , I would like to welcome you to our school website.
At St John’s we pride ourselves on providing high quality care and education guided by our Christian values: Love, Courage and Respect. We offer a blend of the traditional and the contemporary; a safe, secure and well-resourced environment which fosters respect for self, other children, adults and the environment. Children are able to experience enjoyment of school and celebrate the attainment of their full and highest capability in a creative and joyous learning atmosphere.
We are an inclusive school and we also work hard to preserve the school’s cultural roots, teaching children to know their own heritage, but at the same time learning to understand and respect the different backgrounds of others. As a Church of England school we seek to achieve our aims within the context of the Christian faith, keeping true to the school’s Christian foundation and purpose. However, we warmly welcome children of families from all backgrounds, whose parents/carers will support the education of their children in a school with clear values, a family-centred approach and high standards.
Our professional team is highly motivated to provide children with a broad-based and challenging learning experience. We are committed to nurturing children’s spiritual, academic, moral and social development. For us, the education process is a ’golden triangle.’ This means the child, the parents and the school, all work together to ensure every child receives the maximum benefit from their education. Parents who choose St. John’s find that if they or their children have any concerns, we will always listen. We value parents’ opinions on the school and on their child’s achievements. Of course, we always listen to children’s views and value their thoughts and feedback too.
We hope that this website will give you as much information as possible about our school and a flavour of what we can offer your children and family. If you have any further questions or need more information, please contact us through the school office.
Kind regards
Carolyn Wilkinson

Values and Ethos
Our Christian Values As a Church of England Voluntary Aided School, we have very close connections with St. John's Forton. We often visit the church for whole school services and for R.E. lessons. Reverend Ray Driscoll and his team also visit the school for Collective Worship and to talk to the children.
Our Christian Values LOVE, COURAGE and RESPECT are at the centre of everything we do at St John's C of E Primary School. They help us to live out our Christian Vision of ‘life in all its fullness’. Each half term, we focus on a different Christian Value. This is done explicitly through our Collective Worship time, but also throughout our curriculum. Children have regular opportunities to reflect on each value and to develop an understanding of the Value in action. Each Friday, in our Celebration Collective Worship, we acknowledge children who have demonstrated these values.
Our Vision for St John’s promotes: Preparing the next generation to flourish and prosper in all aspects of life:
• Creative independent lifelong learners who achieve well and are prepared for the challenges of 21st Century living.
• Outstanding teaching to expand all young people’s capacity and appetite to learn.
• A collaborative learning culture that supports experimentation and personal responsibility.
Our Aims:
• To provide an education of the highest quality for each child. To have high expectations of excellence in all areas of learning whilst promoting the moral, cultural, spiritual and physical development of our children.
• To encourage our children to have enthusiastic and positive attitudes and to promote lifelong learning.
• To build a successful partnership with parents and carers and to promote empathy and tolerance within our community and the wider world.
• To safeguard and promote the welfare of each child.
Promoting Fundamental British Values In accordance with The Department for Education we aim to actively promote British values in schools to ensure young people leave school prepared for life in modern Britain. Pupils are encouraged to regard people of all faiths, races and cultures with respect and tolerance and understand that while different people may hold different views about what is ‘right’ and ‘wrong’, all people living in England are subject to its law.
