School Trips

During 2009 - 2010 the children at St John's have been on a huge variety of school trips, both day and residential. Year 5 kicked off the year with their camping trip to Tile Barn where great fun was had by all. Year 6 followed after half term with their week at Kingswood on the Isle of Wight where they tested their bravery and developed their team building skills as well as having an enormous amount of fun to boot.

Year 3 enjoyed their annual sleepover at the school just before the May half term which was organised with military precision by Mrs Jakes and Mrs Radford, with additional help from Mr Allen, Mrs Loneragan, Miss Chamcham, Mrs Holmes and lots of others.

Year 4 were the final group to go on a very muddy trip to Fairhtorne Manor where they had an absolute whale of a time.

The children have also been on several day trips this year. The whole school has been on theatre trips and a trip to the cinema whilst individual year groups have organised their own topic related trips too.

Reception were fortunate to visit Mrs Newton's chickens and to see the eggs that they had laid. They were able to make comparisons between these and their own chicks which they saw hatching in their classroom.

Year 3 had a tremendous day out to Osborne House on the Isle of Wight, a great day was had by all, the weather was amazing and they were even lucky enough to have a horse and cart ride into the bargain!

Years 4 and 5 both studied India this year, and what better way to learn about Indian cuisine than a trip to Cafe Tusk in Fareham. The children were served in two sittings, and they were encouraged to go and choose their own food. How civilised they all were sitting at their tables with their friends, enjoying a delicious meal

Year 5 had two amazing days to English Heritage sites this year. In the autumn term they visited Stone Henge. It was an amazing day despite the constant rain, a good time was had by all. In complete contrast, during the summer term they invited Michael, the storyteller, to join them at Portchester Castle. He shared stories with them and took some of them onto the roof. The weather was beautiful and they were able to enjoy a very relaxed picnic lunch in the castle grounds, and even spotted some nesting baby peregrine falcons.
