Curriculum

St John's offers a broad, balanced and creative curriculum. We aim to involve the children in their learning and the way that they learn.

New Barn

Liam Ackerman and Thomas Kirman

It was 9:30am when year 4 set of for New Barn and everyone was so excited. While we were on coach it was very noisy because everyone couldn’t wait to get there.

Finally we got there and the time was about 11:00am and we were shown to our rooms. We all unpacked our clothes and were called out for lunch, then we all sat down in the hut where we were given are maps for orienteering. We were all given animal names in our pairs like, pig, swan and guinea pig. There were about 10 targets with letters on them. Next we went back and had some free time in our rooms, it was so noisy.

Now it was time for tea so we went over to the coffee shop to have chicken nuggets chips and peas. After tea we went out to a pottery room where we made our own clay creatures.

Finally to finish the day off we had gone on a night walk across the edge of New Barn. People got really scared of the noises and shadows. It was good for some but not others. When we got back we got into our pyjamas and we all had a hot chocolate and biscuit lovely. It was a good hour before everyone got to sleep.

Portchester 2011

Paige Adams

This year 5 and year 1 have been to Porchester Castle. The weather was fantanstic, especially for and this is one of a childs opinion it was really fantastic and ejoyable and there were amazing things to do.

Enterprise

This year (2011) Year 5 and 4 created businesses and products which they sold to the public on the playground.

The children had great fun the in their groups

The staff told them what they had to concentrate on, Year 5 made products which would help with a healthy lifestyle. We raised money to help pay for a school trip at the end of term.

During the project, we had to decide what we were going to make, work out how much it would make to cost and then pitch to some dragons (Mrs Lowman, Mr Mills, and Mrs Rose) for the money needed to make our products. We looked at budgeting and making profit.

The Enterprise Market was held in the school playground and proved to be very popular. Good fun was had by all!
